PALUMBO INTRODUCES UPFIT: A NEW NAME FOR A NEW WAY OF THINKING ABOUT REFIT
The new identity reflects almost six decades of maritime expertise and an integrated approach to refit, maintenance, repair, upgrades and long-term yacht support.
Palumbo Superyachts Refit has officially rebranded as Palumbo Upfit, introducing a new identity that reflects the evolution of the business and an approach shaped by almost six decades of maritime experience.
The new name represents a transformation that has been developing within the company for years: from delivering individual refit projects to supporting yachts throughout their operational lives with maintenance, repair, conversion, technical upgrades, engineering and long-term technical guidance.
Refit remains fundamental to the business but it no longer encompasses the full scope of Palumbo’s capabilities.

A Broader Approach to Yacht Care Palumbo Upfit brings together repair, maintenance, conversion, technical upgrades, engineering, structural works, systems and interiors within a unified approach built around continuity, technical expertise and long-term responsibility.
At the heart of this philosophy is the understanding that no intervention exists in isolation. Every decision made on board contributes to the yacht’s wider lifecycle, influencing its performance, operation and future evolution.
“We did not feel the need to change what we are,” says Antonio Palumbo, CEO of Palumbo Upfit. “We felt the need to give a name to what we had become. Refit remains fundamental to our work, but Upfit reflects something broader: the responsibility to understand the vessel, to connect every intervention and to carry that knowledge and commitment forward over time.”

This philosophy is founded on relationships that extend well beyond a single yard period.
“I am incredibly proud to look back at what my family has built over the past six decades, and equally grateful for the trust placed in us by the owners and crews who return to us time and again,” adds Palumbo. “These long-standing relationships have allowed us to grow and extend our support beyond a single shipyard appointment. Our clients are not choosing one yard for one project; they gain access to an entire Mediterranean network with the ability to plan where, when and how their yacht should evolve.”
Seven Shipyards. One Continuity of Care The Palumbo story began in 1967 when the company was established as a repair centre for commercial vessels calling at the Port of Naples. Almost six decades later, the business has evolved into an extensive Mediterranean network spanning France, Italy, Malta and Croatia.

As its technical capabilities and expertise expanded, Palumbo Upfit evolved into one of the Group’s specialist divisions, dedicated to the refit, repair, maintenance and long-term support of superyachts.
Across its network, Palumbo Upfit offers more than 44.5 hectares of combined facility space and 5.6 kilometres of berthing, supported by 10 dry docks with lengths of up to 268 metres, seven floating docks with a maximum lifting capacity of 40,000 tonnes, four travel lifts and one syncrolift capable of handling yachts of up to 3,300 tonnes.
Infrastructure, however, represents only one part of the company’s proposition. “Refit still describes much of what we do,” says Palumbo. “It simply no longer describes all of what we are responsible for. Upfit encapsulates the full lexicon of Palumbo and our preventive approach one that not only addresses the work in the shed today but safeguards our clients for the future.”

With its extensive Mediterranean network, Palumbo Upfit is positioned to look beyond the immediate requirements of a project and anticipate what comes next. This approach involves identifying potential future challenges, developing preventive measures and advising owners on decisions designed to keep their yachts operating at their best long after leaving the yard.
For Palumbo Upfit, scale is not about creating distance. It is about creating greater capability.
Growth Adds Capability, Not Distance The Palumbo Upfit network operates with a shared vision for the long-term strategy and evolution of every yacht.
Rather than concentrating every intervention within a single yard period, owners can plan the development of their yacht in phases, selecting the Palumbo Upfit facility best suited to each stage according to its infrastructure, specialist capabilities and the yacht’s cruising programme.

Painting, engineering, technical upgrades, interior works and major structural modifications can therefore form part of a coordinated programme extending over several years. Each intervention builds on the previous one, while knowledge and responsibility remain within the Group.
For owners preparing a yacht for a new chapter, adapting it for a different use, positioning it for a future sale or simply planning a winter stop or targeted refinements, this approach enables the vessel to evolve through a considered sequence of improvements rather than treating each yard period as an isolated project.
“We remain a family-led Group, with the fourth generation now involved in its management,” says Palumbo. “For us, that means staying personally connected to the yards, to the people and to the decisions that shape each project. As our Group has grown, that direct involvement has become even more important. It keeps relationships close, gives continuity to commitments and ensures that responsibility is never reduced to a process or a title.”

A New Identity Rooted in Maritime Heritage supporting the Palumbo Upfit identity is a symbol deeply rooted in maritime history: the Plimsoll line.
Introduced as a compulsory safety marking under the Merchant Shipping Act of 1876, the Plimsoll line indicates the maximum depth to which a vessel can be safely loaded and remains fundamental to vessel stability and safety.
The new Palumbo Upfit insignia reinterprets this maritime heritage to represent an approach developed through decades of working closely with vessels, owners, captains and crews.
The addition of the letters “UP” to the Plimsoll line creates a form reminiscent of the Greek letter Phi (Φ), traditionally associated with proportion, balance and enduring structure.
The resulting identity represents a network whose strength is founded on decades of technical expertise and whose capabilities continue to evolve, while its responsibility towards the vessels entrusted to its care remains constant.
“We were guided by a way of working before we were defined by a name,” concludes Antonio Palumbo. “For generations, Palumbo has been built on proximity to the vessel, respect for the work and accountability for the result. Upfit is not a new chapter in the Palumbo story. It is the name we have chosen for the thread that connects all the chapters. The name is new. The commitment behind it is not.”
Palumbo Upfit is not simply about restoring what exists. It is about understanding what comes next. Continuity through evolution.
