CHINA MERCHANTS ENERGY SHIPPING AND RINA PARTNER TO EXPLORE AI-DRIVEN SHIP OPERATIONS AND NEXT-GENERATION MARITIME TECHNOLOGIES
China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), a leading global shipping and maritime transportation company, and RINA, the international inspection, certification, ship classification and engineering consultancy group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in maritime safety, digital transformation, operational efficiency and emerging shipping technologies.
The agreement marks a further step in the established relationship between the two organisations, providing a structured framework for long-term collaboration. By combining their respective expertise and technical capabilities, CMES and RINA aim to explore innovative solutions that address the evolving operational, environmental and technological demands of the global maritime industry.
Under the MoU, both organisations will pursue opportunities across several key areas, including fleet safety and risk management, carbon emissions management, regulatory compliance and the advancement of digital and data-driven vessel operations.
A central focus of the collaboration will be the exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital technologies to enhance vessel performance and operational decision-making. Potential applications include predictive maintenance, energy efficiency optimisation and intelligent fleet management, supporting safer, more efficient and sustainable maritime operations.
The partnership will also examine the development and adoption of alternative fuels, smart shipping solutions, automation and other next-generation technologies that could contribute to the maritime industry’s ongoing transformation and decarbonisation efforts.
Beyond technological innovation, the agreement seeks to encourage closer technical cooperation through joint research initiatives, knowledge sharing and the exchange of industry expertise. These activities are intended to strengthen operational excellence while supporting both organisations in responding to an increasingly complex regulatory environment and rapidly advancing technological landscape.
Through this strategic partnership, CMES and RINA reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing maritime innovation, enhancing operational performance and exploring future-ready solutions that support a safer, smarter and more sustainable global shipping industry.
