Royal Huisman to build Project Phi

As a result of many hours of deep conversation, over a period of years, between the experienced owner and Cor D. Rover, Phi was born, utilising the especially developed Fast Displacement XL ® hull form from Van Oossanen, which allowed this yacht to take such proportions and still remain under the 500 GT mark. Relating to ”Sectio divina” or the Golden Ratio, Phi is the formula that governs continuation of dimensions and shapes in natural proportions throughout the design.

Preliminary details available show a design, true to the philosophy, of a completely bespoke and highly detailed exterior, incorporating numerous beautifully and patented, technically innovative features.

Further key-players in the development of Phi were the Owner’s current Captain, in association with Yacht Consult as well as Arcon Yachts.

Together with this international team, Royal Huisman is proud to create an exceptional motor yacht, combining high levels of performance in a design that is certain to attract admiration, not only for its radical looks, but also for its highly detailed interior, its integration of future-technology, its unrivalled guest spaces, and the highest levels of comfort, all executed to the absolute finest of possible standards. The “Fast Displacement XL ® by Van Oossanen“ hull of Project Phi has been optimized for a maximum speed of approximately 22 knots, is gyro-stabilized and she will be sub 500 GT, yet providing the feeling and comfort of a much larger vessel.

A matter of utmost importance to the Owner was for the interior design to seamlessly embrace and continue the principles of the progressive design of Phi. Lawson Robb, globally renowned known for their highly-coutured and forward thinking design, were the perfect fit to help realise the vision.

Charlotte Robb comments “This is an extraordinary project, an extraordinary client and team with an extraordinary vision. We are extremely excited to work with such an inspirational team in creating a truly unique home away from home and setting a new bar for yacht design.”

Throughout the project, client-team has been very aware that a major area of focus is the challenge of installing comprehensive machinery and technical systems within the relatively low volume of a long, slender hull designed to meet high performance objectives which includes simplicity in operation and maintenance. Consequently, the Owner appointed a renowned sailing yacht-builder to call upon their technical expertise in this specific area.

Technical Director Jaap Gelling of Royal Huisman comments: “The Phi-team approached Royal Huisman because the client was looking for a yard renowned for its great dedication and ability to realize this yacht with its inherent challenges, staying within the definition of Phi. With its long-standing experience building custom sailing superyachts renowned for their technical innovation and reliability, as well as overall quality, Royal Huisman have developed highly sophisticated design engineering and space planning capabilities and is therefore able to meet any space management challenges  – after all this ability lies at the very heart of building large sailing-superyachts.

Needless to say that Phi is an exciting project for our shipyard. Royal Huisman’s mantra has always been: ’If you can dream it, we can build it’ and we are looking forward to demonstrating just how well we will do exactly that.”
