The Yacht with Saddle bags! “Modern Vintage”
Saddlebags, which decorate motorcycle and also have large capacity, are usually a necessary accessory for motorcyclists. In recent years, bicyclers start the trend of installing saddlebags under the seats. Janus Huang, the chief designer of Hyperlien Yacht, who loves riding motorcycles, hit upon an idea while designing yachts. He designed the exclusive equipment of the 28’ yacht “Modern Vintage” with the concept of saddlebags-classic aluminum alloy fishing kit, that anglers can store their fishing tackle and refrigerate fresh fishes and shrimps.
Owning retro Triumph Thruxton 900 and fierce Harley Davidson VRSC Night Rod Special, riding motorcycles across Taiwan, Janus Huang is definitely not unfamiliar with saddlebags. “Motorcycles can have saddlebags, why yachts can’t?” One day when he was enjoying the fun of riding in the mountains, this idea occurred to him. After returning home, he drew the sketch of fishing kit immediately. The next day, he called a design meeting, used saddlebags as inspiration, and added the texture of motorcycle suitcases. Eventually, the unique fishing kit of “Modern Vintage” went from drawing to reality.
Since it was inspired by saddlebags, the fishing kit is naturally on both sides of the rear deck. “No one has designed something like that in yacht world, we’re the first one!” Janus said with pride. He added, most of seafood refrigerators on the yachts are usually indoors, what Hyperlien did is pioneering work. “I told our design team, though it’s inspired by saddlebags, the appearance and the texture must be similar to suitcases!” He emphasizes, the texture of fishing kit is aluminum alloy, and its appearance matches the vintage style of the whole yacht. In his opinion, the “Modern Vintage” with fishing kit is much more appealing and charming to compare one without.
The capacity of this fishing kit in total is 200 liters, both has a divider. One side is made for the storage of fishing tackle and refrigeration of fishes, and the other side is for the storage of ice cubes and also for fishes. Considering the fishermen’s demand, one side is equipped with bait tray, fishing rod storage holes and cup holder.
“On the rear deck, except for fishing kit this highlight, the aft bench seat can also be extended as single sun cushion.” Janus Huang said with a smile, if a couple goes yachting on a weekend, the woman can take a sunbath during her boyfriend is fishing, both have their own fun. “It’s not only that, there are also a series of storage drawers, if they also own the optional equipment – foldable BBQ grill, they’ll be able to enjoy a big seafood meal afterwards!” he said.
The ex-factory price of “Modern Vintage” with standard equipment starts from 120,000 USD. It has won “the Oscar of the design world” German iF product design award in 2015, and also the special mention of Millennium Yacht Design Award in 2016.
