For a contemporary sailing yacht, we have developed a unique interior atmosphere and experience.

The combination of styling and detailing give the feeling of a second skin. It follows the hull lines creating a flow and a conformable environment to refresh yourself after an active day outside. The interior architecture acts as a rib cage and echo’s the hull shape. Its overheads follow the deck curvature connecting smoothly to the sides and following into the floor. This play of curves is like sails under tension, creating a veil like atmosphere, an intimate space.

Functional designed furniture adds to the overall feeling of a light, airy, pure, harmonious and natural environment. Matching the brief and key words.

Going back to the essence when selecting materials brought us to humble materials such as pine wood, woven paper, natural leather and copper. Combining them with high craftsmanship, their perceptions changes and become precious. The tailored selection of materials emphasizes the second skin philosophy, they are close to skin tones, from milky pink to tan colours.

This palette of colours and textures illustrate the experience on board: sea & sun, a bikini mark, salt on your skin, all these colours, effects and textures are echoed in this interior.

Simple technical solutions are sourced to unclutter the interior from blinds, light switches and reading lights. The lighting is integrated as an indirect source, concealed in the architecture, once switched on all corner lines disappear, creating an escape to the defined space.

We believe this interior design is a good example of the essence of our work: pure, uncluttered, fresh, surprising and innovative.

Key words:

• Light, Airy, Functinal, Simplicity, Harmonuous, Timeless, Natural materials, performance oriented interior. Inspiration:

• Hangiri Japanese Wooden Sushi rice Bowl, a curved sheet of paper, Sails under tension, essence of natural materials, Direction:

• The taken design path is to create a second skin within the interior architecture and its material selection. Materials:

• Copper, Douglas Fir, Spruce, Natural leather, Woven paper, textured painted surfaces

Van Geest Design has a combined experience of more than 35 years in yacht- and interior design and project management. We have mainly been focussing on the exterior design but lately more and more request came for interior design. Since early 2015 we have taken on several interior design projects in a variety of styles.

Our knowledge is not only in design, we have also extensive knowledge and experience in shipyard production, project management and owner’s representation. Van Geest Design knowledge covers the whole process from start to finish of the yacht’s design and construction. This complete understanding of the processes allows us to give full service towards our clients.

We strive to keep design pure, non-cluttered. Not only in the big picture but especially in the details. We integrate interaction between the outside environment and the interior spaces of the yacht. As a result of our technical and production knowledge we like to evolve our designs; always featuring something innovative and unique.

Past and current interior projects include several yacht interiors as well as villas and apartments all over the world.
