Triple Crown winners in Argentina
PABLO MAC DONOUGH AND LA DOLFINA WIN FOR THE SECOND YEAR RUNNING THE TRIPLE CROWN IN ARGENTINA WITH A RECORD WIN OF TWENTY-TWO CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES.
The final of the Triple Crown was played last 7th of December in Palermo. This highly prestigious polo tournament reunites every year the best teams from the Argentinean championship.
Lead by Adolfo Cambiaso, Pablo Mac Donough’s team La Dolfina, competed against its usual enemy Ellerstina in a spectacular finale. Such a derby created the setting for a match of the highest quality which captivated the public for nearly three hours.
The match was of the closest order with teams taking turns to score goals but La Dolfina rapidly set the pace by scoring the first goal within the first fifteen seconds thanks to a remarkable strike by David Stirling. The pace of this match was set from the very start.
Both teams persevered but the desire for victory by Pablo and his team enabled them to clinch the win after a tough match with a final score of 14-12 at the 8th chukka. This 121st edition of the Argentinean Polo Open once again demonstrated the strength of La Dolfina on gaining their 6th victory at this tournament since 2005. This however represents more than a victory in obtaining records with the most consecutive games won at twenty two in the history of the Triple Crown and La Dolfina being only the 2nd team ever to win two years in a row since Coronel Suarez some forty years ago.
