Abu Dhabi – There is no doubt that when taking on the unpredictability of the sea, these men are outstanding at what they do. We find out what, aside from sailing, distinguishes each member of the Abu Dhabi Racing crew and what they individually bring to the table in terms of character?
Ian Walker – In addition to being one of the world’s best sailors, Ian is hyper organized and highly detail oriented. He is also a natural leader, a great motivator and highly respected by his crew.
Adil Khalid – Physically powerful and skilled on board, Adil is a great ambassador for his nation and very popular amongst his crewmates.
Chuny Bermúdez – Utterly unflappable, Chuny is a solid and dependable force among the crew. With five Volvo Ocean Races to his name already there is very little Chuny hasn’t seen or dealt with out on the ocean.
Luke Parkinson – The youngest, strongest and fittest of the sailors, Luke’s boundless enthusiasm for exercise and his huge appetite has earned him the new nickname ‘The Labrador.’ He is also fearless on the bow and an excellent helmsman.
Justin Slattery – Level headed with a clear mind, Justin is participating in his fourth Volvo Ocean Race. Out on the ocean skipper Ian Walker relies heavily on his experience and skills when making tactical and strategic decisions.
Daryl Wislang – Organized and resourceful, Daryl is also a strong helmsman and expert pitman. He knows Azzam inside out and while racing will take the lead on the organization of any necessary repairs to the yacht.
Phil Harmer – Cool and collected in even the most stressful situations, Phil Harmer is impossible to phase out on the water. He is also a consummate team player and his quick wit enables him to see the funny side of any situation.
Simon Fisher – His gentle and affable persona belies a highly competitive streak when racing. Along with a comprehensive knowledge of the world’s oceans and weather systems, Simon is an expert on Azzam’s electronic navigation systems and also one of the crew’s best helmsmen and trimmers.
