CANTIERE DELLE MARCHE LAUNCHES THE DARWIN CLASS 107
The exceptional Explorer Yacht M/Y STORM was launched yesterday in Ancona, measuring 107 feet and weighing 300 tons, in steel and aluminum, from the product range Darwin Class, built by Cantiere delle Marche. A new launch that confirms the strength of the Ancona shipyard, the world leader in the market of displacement yachts in steel and aluminum. The shipyard marks a new success with the first delivery of a vessel over 100 feet. In fact, thanks to this delivery, CDM starts a series of launches all above 100 ‘, having under construction two Darwin Class 102’, one Nauta Air 108 ‘, one Nauta Air 111’.
The yacht meets the usual technical characteristics on which the worldwide success of the Darwin Class range is founded. In terms of style, M / Y STORM has absorbed all the updates introduced on the new Darwin 86 and 102 which include a more balanced longitudinal profile for a more contemporary style, the increased window surface, lowered gunwale for a closer contact with the sea. From the technical point of view, the Darwin 107 is the direct development of smaller models and takes into account the feedbacks from the navigation experience of the six preceding models that already sailed thousands of miles .
Vasco Buonpensiere, sales and marketing manager of the shipyard commented on the new delivery: “The owner of this beautiful explorer ship was the first customer to have contacted this site in 2010 and, after three years of inquiries and checks with his advisers at the best manufacturers in the world , in 2013 he decided to buy this Darwin Class 107. In addition to this, he chose Cantiere delle Marche after owning a yacht built in one of the best North European shipyards and, consequently, being accustomed to a very high level construction quality. There is no doubt that the baptism of Storm marks an important moment for all those who work here, as well as for the owner.”
Continues Ennio Cecchini, CEO of the Cantiere delle Marche “Building this yacht was exciting in every respect: the synergy between shipowner and crew, the goals shared by them and the whole CDM team, and the driving force created by a common passion for the explorer ship and the quality of the construction details has really created a special ship. With its 300 gross registered tonnage, it is not comparable to any other boat of the same length. The volume was masterfully used and perfectly balanced between operational areas and those of the shipowners. We look forward to being able to present to the press this Yacht in detail: every corner of Storm is a surprise in terms of engineering and quality .”
There are many customisations required by the expert English shipowner , who will spend more than 120 days a year on board with his family: great attention has been paid to the crew quarters that are furnished following the same theme as the VIP areas, for a total of four cabins on board. The studio PFA Design chose refined combinations : the walnut wood and the panelled walls , with either fabric or leather covers. The result is a boat with a classic maritime mood, obtained through the English style for the combination of colours and fabrics and through quality materials, processed by skilled craftsmen who have perfected the boat like a tailored suit. All of this encounters the Italian design which informed the entire interior decor style. In the main deck we find the living room which is particularly large, thanks to the fact that the yacht is 7.70 meters wide, and which connects to the dining area with kitchen. The kitchen is an informal area, also for the shipowners. It has an incredible in size, comparable to kitchens in 45/48 meters long yachts. In the lounge of the main deck you can feel space and light, particularly abundant in this environment thanks to large windows, which are decorated and full-length curtains like in a normal luxury house. On the upper deck we find the hall, designed primarily for entertainment and equipped with a large “L” shaped sofa and handmade chairs. At the bow we see the great handmade helm, characterised by a curved dashboard that follows the line of the windows, with three comfortable pilot armchairs. Aft there is a sofa, to enjoy the broad view you get from this location of the ship, during the navigation experience. Another very interesting feature is the presence of a radio room adjacent to the bridge, which is absolutely unusual for boats this size.
For the organisation of the technical areas on deck, various arrangements have been designed according to the needs of the owner and his commander. The hydraulic related to the thrusters was engineered after specific requests on part of the commander and so were many other important details that make this Class Darwin ship a benchmark for anyone who approaches this market.
M / Y STORM will be officially unveiled in its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Boat Show, where it will debut along with the Darwin Class 86 _M / Y Stella Del Nord and M / Y NOGA, 90′ of the product range CDM Nauta Air.
