FERNANDO ALONSO: “THIS IS WHAT LUXURY ECO YACHTING SHOULD BE ABOUT”
Two-time Formula 1 Champion Fernando Alonso got to test the all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco sail catamaran over a summer holiday in Mykonos. Today, we share an exclusive video and selection of photos from the trip, along with the motorsport superstar’s impressions from the cruise.
Fernando Alonso commissioned an electric 60 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran with Sunreef Yachts last year. Currently under construction in Gdansk, Poland, his sustainable custom motoryacht will be equipped with electric engines and the shipyard’s patented photovoltaic system.
Earlier this year, Fernando Alonso explained his decision to build with Sunreef Yachts, during the shipyard’s press conference at the Cannes Yachting Festival: Sunreef Yachts was an easy choice for me. They combine luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their facility in Poland, I saw first-hand how all the details are taken care of. This is what luxury eco yachting should be about.”
Reflecting on his Mykonos holiday on board the Sunreef 80 Eco, he explained his motivations and journey to building his own electric yacht: “My life goes so fast. I travel a lot around the world. Once on the track, it’s again all about speed. When I enjoy my time off, I want the exact opposite. I want to travel in total silence, with no fumes, no vibrations.”
