Officine Panerai – Luminor 8 Days
A long power reserve of eight days is shared by three new creations of the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel: three Luminor with characteristics which make each model new and unique, while strongly maintaining the unmistakable Panerai identity.
The Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Acciaio (PAM00795), using the new P.5002 hand-wound calibre with a power reserve of eight days, has an AISI 316L stainless steel case (44 mm in diameter) and a classic black sandwich dial with the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and, for the first time in this model, the power reserve indicator at 5 o’clock, with the arrow hand inspired by some Panerai watches of the late 1990s. Every detail perfectly carries out the function for which it was designed and the rich combination of technical content and purity of design meets the highest standards of sports watchmaking. Attention to detail is also evident in the choice of colours, such as the use of beige Super-LumiNova® on the dial, which coordinates perfectly with the brown leather strap and its beige sewing.
The Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Titanio (PAM00797) has the same functions and the same design as the steel version but the case and the device for protecting the winding crown are made of titanium, with brushed finish and polished edges. The titanium used for the case is Grade 5, an alloy with excellent mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion, as well as being about 40% lighter than steel. On this model too the choice of colours is highly sophisticated, involving various shades of brown: darker for the dial, lighter for the untreated natural leather strap, and beige for the Super-LumiNova® markers and the sewing of the strap.
The third creation is the Luminor Left-Handed 8 Days Acciaio (PAM00796), with steel case, black sandwich dial in perfect Panerai style and a strap of the same colour. In this case the power reserve indicator of the eight-day P.5001 hand-wound movement is visible through the sapphire crystal porthole in the back, as is the bridge with twin supports which firmly fixes the balance wheel. But the most distinctive characteristic is the positioning of the winding crown and its related protecting device at 9 o’clock, which makes this model perfect for left-handers or those who prefer to wear the watch on the right wrist. Left-handed watches are part of the history of Panerai, which since the 1940s has created such models for the frogmen of the Italian Navy, so that they could wear the other instruments needed for their missions, the compass and depth gauge, on the left wrist.
All the new Luminor 8 Days are water-resistant to 30 bar (a depth of about 300 metres) and they are supplied with a second strap made of rubber – black in the case of the steel models and brown for the titanium one – as well as a small steel screwdriver enabling the strap to be replaced easily and quickly.
