PHILIPPE BRIAND DESIGNS AT LORO PIANA CARIBBEAN SUPER YACHT REGATTA
Super yachts designed by world-class sailor Philippe Briand took a number of podium places at this year’s Loro Piana Caribbean Super yacht Regatta 2016, at which a record number of vessels participated for the sixth edition. Over three days, from 10 to 12 March,21 super yachts from the most prestigious designers and shipyards came together across four classes to battle it out on the course in excellent conditions off the British Virgin Islands.
After several days of closely fought races, a trio of Philippe Briand-designed super yachts finished in the top three of the two highest-performance classes of the competition. Having jostled for the pole position in her class with S/Y Nilaya over the duration of the weekend,33.4m Vitters-built S/Y Inouï, a carbon composite sloop with naval architecture and exterior design from Philippe Briand, took second place in Class A, the most highper formanceof the classes in the regatta. Finishing just behind Inouï was Briand’s 42.3mS/Y Samurai (ex-Mari Cha IV), which was third overall in Class B. The Briand-designed, Perini Navi-built 38.0m S/Y P2 took the top prize for Class B overall, having closely fought against S/Y Hetairos all week.
“I’m so pleased to see my designs continue to bring joy and pride to their owners during these fantastic superyacht regattas, which are the yachting calendar highlight for many,” said Philippe Briand. “To see three of our designs finish in the top three of their class at this year’s Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta, even over 10 years after they have been launched, is very inspiring.”
