February 3rd saw the Commercial Court of Marseille declare Palumbo Group the winner of the Tender for Acquisition of International Technic Marine (ITM) in Marseille. Two players were involved in the final stages of the Tender, the Maltese Company Melita Marine, that withdrew its bid just before the final decision of the Court, and Palumbo that came out as the winner.
Palumbo Marseille Superyachts ITM, this is the new name of the Shipyard which covers an area of about 12,000 sqm comprising 4 four large dry docks ranging from 80 up to 126 meters, a watershed of about 95 meters and more than 300m of quays for afloat repairs. Palumbo Group kept 8 of the former managers. The shipyard, located in the Port of Marseille and in the centre of the city is one of the biggest shipyard in the Mediterranean fully dedicated to Superyachts. Palumbo Marseille Superyachts ITM now will be included in the already created network of Palumbo Shipyards in the Mediterranean and will represents an excellence refit centre in the Mediterranean and also an additional after sale point for the client of Columbus Yachts, the brand of new building of Palumbo Group.
Palumbo Group plans to start its investment in the facilities buying new equipment and lifting systems in order to improve and increase the range of services to offer to its clients. Palumbo Shipyard has been in the ship repair industry for over forty-five years. The Company, founded in 1967, started its activity in the ship repair field and now operates in construction, refit, repair and maintenance of every type of vessel in its five shipyards Naples, Messina, now Marseille and Malta with two yards.
During the last years, the Company has been expanding its core business, through the creation of a platform in the heart of the Mediterranean, building a network in the ship-repair industry, in the offshore sector and in the yachting sector. Such logistic platform has the technical and timing ability required to satisfy any Owners’ demands, providing them, at the same time, with the widest and most complete range of services. The Company invested a lot in professionalism, reaching very high professional level of its technical staff.
With formally obtaining ISO 9001 certification and the OHSAS 18001, the health and safety management system certification, Palumbo Group is even more competitive and able to show its improved service levels, with faster turnaround times.
With ITM Marseille acquisition, Palumbo manages an extended platform comprising fourteen dry-docks (6 of them fully dedicated to Superyachts) ranging from 40 meters up to maximum 360 meters in length, more than one kilometre of quays and an operational area covering about 520.000 square meters, offering a substantial range of products to the general maritime, ship repair and yachting sectors from its network of shipyards in the centre of Mediterranean. Palumbo Group would like to thank the city of Marseille for the warm welcome and it is doing its best to get the Shipyard fully operative, as in the past; as soon as possible.
