Mercedes S-Class Voted The Best Luxury Vehicle for 2021
Mercedes continues to prove it’s setting the pace in the luxury automotive industry. Yet again, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class claims a top award. A stunning display of luxury, superior design and innovative technology, the 2021 S-Class has claimed the Motor1 star award for the best luxury vehicle of 2021.
Motor 1, the worldwide automotive news platform, takes into account much more than soft leather and a stylish exterior when reaching its decision.
The platform looks at several verticals when determining the best all-around luxury vehicle for 2021 including comfort factors, luxury equipment, ride quality, style and design and the level of high-end technology.
While the finalists were limited to vehicles under approximately A$200,000 – implying no top-tier luxury brands like Rolls-Royce or Bentley were included in the mix – the Mercedes S-Class swept away its final rival, the latest Genesis G80 2021.

And starting with a new user interface, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, continues improving on the brilliance of previous models.
The augmented reality head-up 12.8-inch display houses Mecerdes’s MBUX infotainment system sitting sleekly in the centre console. This year’s MBUX however, is cleaner and easier to use with a more streamlined home screen, improved responsiveness and better features. There’s also the same voice functionality and augmented-reality navigation that is relatively standard in the S-Class, albeit a more modern version.
The rest of the interior features a bevy of ambient lighting options and a truly spectacular Burmeister audio system. For Motor1 these were the main features that made ‘the S-Class the easy choice’ for the best luxury vehicle 2021.
On the exterior, it’s what you’d expect from an S-Class. The classic exterior proportions give it an air of sophistication and elements like keyless, retractable door handles and new digital light headlamps bolster the modern look.
Motor 1 says the exterior design is elegant, and the interior would hold its own against the typically expensive luxury cars.
“Inarguably the most upscale cabin outside of a Bentley or Rolls-Royce. The high-end sedan also scored 9.7 out of 10 points in our review, meaning this would be an interesting rivalry.”
Being luxurious is far from the S-class’s only selling point. The Mercedes also packs a punch in terms of performance with a V8 that is the epitome of refinement and smoothness. The Mercedes-Benz S580’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 produces 496hp that propels the car from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 250km/h. The S-Class also features a nine-speed auto transmission, rear-wheel steering and a highly adaptive suspension making it more composed around the corners.
The V8 version of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class starts from A$335,100.
