HANSE 385 WINS THE PHUKET KINGS CUP
The biggest sailing event in Asia, the Kings Cup regatta, was held off Phuket, Thailand’s largest island. In difficult conditions, such as weak and shifting winds, the Small Boats group was won by the Hanse 385 “Iyarada” owned by Australian Tony Cittadini. This proves once again that the Hanse designs from Judel/Vrolijk & co. not only make wonderful cruising yachts, but are also capable of making it to the winners’ podium.
The impressive performance of the Hanse 385 “Iyarada” was achieved with a standard rig and standard sails. The Australian owner didn’t even want to do without the bimini, which is practically vital in the tropics, and still won the race as the smallest boat in the group.
After the victory, owner Cittadini, along with his brother who sailed with him, was impressed with the performance of the Hanse 385 and continued his holiday on board his victorious yacht after the race.
The Phuket Kings Cup was created in 1987 by His Majesty King Bhumibol to mark his 60th birthday and is still the biggest sailing event in Asia to this day. Every year at the start of December, sailors from all over the world meet on Thailand’s biggest island to take part in the regatta.
