Giant Feadship hull adds new dimension
Giant Feadship hull adds new dimension to SAIL parade
Once every five years, the iconic SAIL Amsterdam event opens with a special parade of boats in all shapes and sizes. On Wednesday 19 August, hundreds of thousands of people lined the banks of the IJ River in Amsterdam to see an enormous flotilla of over forty Tall Ships, naval vessels, impressive replicas and many other examples of our shared maritime past and present sail into the centre of Amsterdam.
A convoy of classic motoryachts from the Feadship Heritage Fleet also took part, but the biggest surprise of all was reserved for the spectators and crews who gained a glimpse of the future in an unexpected way. For this particular Wednesday was also the day scheduled to transport the giant hull of a new 96-metre Feadship from the Slob yard in Papendrecht, south of Amsterdam, to the Feadship yard in Makkum, north of the capital city. Her journey took the core of this fabulous new Feadship right through the heart of the SAIL parade, offering a sneak preview of the beautiful lines of this fully custom build.
Superyacht in the making
The hull has now arrived in Makkum for outfitting by the skilled Feadship craftsmen and engineers. Created for a repeat Feadship client, the superyacht will feature a special helicopter hangar, a large swimming pool on the main deck, and splendid accommodations for her guests and crewmembers. The next time that this Feadship will inspire so many gasps of admiration will be at her launch in 2017.
