Cadillac Is Getting A New Logo
Cadillac has confirmed that the design of its signature crest logo will be changing for the second time since 2014. Back then, GM’s luxury brand dropped the decades-old round badge with laurel wreath surround in favor of a wider shield design deemed more appropriate for modern vehicles. According to Fox News, the new logo, which we can already see on the Cadillac Lyriq, will retain the wide look but will drop the colors. The new black and white design will be applied to future all-electric models.
By 2030, Cadillac will be an EV-only brand. “The new crest along with our new tagline ‘Be Iconic’ represent Cadillac’s desire to champion each of us to dream big and become the most aspirational version of ourselves,” a company spokesperson said.
The black and white version is now being used for the brand’s digital properties and Lyriq will have a monochromatic illuminated badge. The automaker further confirmed that so-called “legacy” internal combustion-engined models, like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Escalade, will retain the colored badge.
But if you’re a fan of the new look and aren’t interested in the Lyriq, Cadillac is offering the updated badge on the Escalade Sport as part of the Onyx package. It can also be ordered as a dealer-installed item. The Lyriq, of course, is only the beginning of Cadillac’s fully electrified future.
Due to arrive in showrooms in the first half of next year, the Lyriq will carry a starting price tag of $59,990 and will come with a 12-module, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack that’ll be good for 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. A 300-mile driving range on a single charge is estimated. At launch, the Lyriq will be rear-wheel-drive only but Cadillac has confirmed an all-wheel-drive performance version is in the works. A high-performance V-badged variant is also rumored. The luxury crossover’s final exterior design does not differ much from the concept first shown last year. The only significant changes are the new door constructions, conventional side mirrors, and slightly smaller wheels. Just two exterior colors will be offered: Satin Steel Metallic or Stellar Black Me
