ACADIA wins her class at Superyacht Challenge Antigua
MCM’s Peter Wilson enjoyed glorious conditions at the helm of the 27-metre (90ft) ACADIA during the Superyacht Challenge Antigua – and won her Buccaneers class (and barrels of rum) with five straight wins.
Peter Wilson said: “After last year’s second place, we did some careful evaluation and studies and, as a result, made substantive improvements in ACADIA’s race configuration. We also had the advantage of having predominantly the same crew as last year. As is well recognized, team consistency is a key contributor to performance. As always, racing in the trade winds off the south coast of Antigua provided exhilarating and spirited sailing – not to mention, the dramatic beauty of the coastline and Atlantic waves”. Wilson added: “The hospitality of the event organisers, coupled with the historic Nelson’s Dockyard venue, make this regatta a true gem”.
“Superyacht Challenge Antigua is designed solely for the pleasure of superyacht owners, their guests and crew” according to Paul Deeth, who founded the event, now in its eighth year.
ACADIA, an elegant ‘Spirit of Tradition’ Claasen/Hoek revelled in the frisky trade winds. The largest yacht this year was the graceful and powerful 52m (172ft) ELFJE, also a Hoek design.
ACADIA was built at Claasen Shipyards, with MCM’s Peter Wilson acting as the Owner’s Project Manager. MCM’s Yacht Management division manages the yacht.
MCM was founded 30 years ago (1988) by Peter Wilson and Nigel Ingram and has
managed the construction of over 75 new builds, power and sail, and manages a fleet of some 20 superyachts, acting in the owners’ best interests – which frequently involves pulling together crack regatta racing teams.
