This name originates from the legendary and dangerous Carrera Panamericana race. Porsche named its most powerful engines Carrera after winning its first-class victory in the race in 1954. Meanwhile, Jack Heuer named his 1963 chronograph Carrera after hearing about the race from the Rodriguez brothers at Sebring in 1962. Both brands are also historically connected to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
