Officine Panerai: Luminor Due
The new LUMINOR DUE collection is a new chapter in the history of Panerai. It is the result of a challenge successfully overcome by the designers and engineers of the Panerai Manufacture: to offer enthusiasts a new interpretation of the brand’s iconic watch, the Luminor, which is absolutely faithful to the original aesthetic but with more contemporary functionality, achieved by a reduction in the thickness of the case compared to the historic one which is up to 40%for some models.
The lines of the LUMINOR DUE are inspired by the Luminor 1950 case, which represents the culmination of the Panerai creations made for the Italian Navy from the 1930s to the 1950 s. The ingredients are the ones well known to every connoisseur of high quality watchmaking: the robust cushion case, the large dial surrounded by the bezel, the strong integrated lugs and the bridge-shaped device which seals the crown with a lever and protects it from accidental shocks. All the elements originate directly from the history of the brand and they have all been subtly redesigned to emphasise the versatility of a watch which is a perfect synthesis of the sporting spirit and the ability to wear it one very occasion, a combination of distinctive design and sophisticated watchmaking technique.
With a thickness of only 10.5 mm, the case of the new Luminor Due 3 Days is the thinnest Luminor case ever created. The remarkable efforts of Panerai’s designers are seen in a reduction in the thickness of almost 40%compared to several models in the Luminor 1950 collection with the same diameter. This reduction of thickness – andof weight – has been devised for all those who want toenjoy the distinctive identity of a Panerai watch while enjoying a different experience on the wrist. Once again,Italian design and Swiss watchmaking technical expertisehave joined together to renew the history of a uniquebrand in the panorama of international high quality sportswatchmaking.
Available in AISI 316L stainless steel or in an elegant redgold version, the case of the new Luminor Due 3 Days is42 mm in diameter, it has the classic bridge device withsealing lever which protects the winding crown, and everycomponent has a polished finish. The sapphire crystalreveals the classic minimalist Panerai dial with figures andbar hour markers and the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock.Black in the steel version and anthracite grey in the goldone, the dial has the classic sandwich structure, displayingthe time extremely clearly, and it is enhanced by a satinésoleil finish.
The back of the new Luminor Due 3 Days is open, sothat the hand-wound P.1000 calibre can be admired; inthe red gold model this calibre is presented for the firsttime in the sophisticated skeletonised P.1000/10 version. In it, the large brushed finish bridge which protects overhalf the surface of the calibre has been worked to revealpart of the mechanism, including the two spring barrelswhich provide the power reserve of three days. In bothversions the balance (which oscillates at 28,800 vibrationsper hour) is fixed by a bridge with twin supports to ensuregreat security and stability. The movement also containsthe device which stops the balance wheel and zeroes theseconds hand when setting the time (seconds reset), forperfect synchronisation of the watch with a reference timesignal.
The Luminor Due 3 Days is supplied with a black alligator strap both in the steel version (PAM 00676) and in the red gold version (PAM 00677). It is water-resistant to 3 bar (about 30 metres).
