The New Bertram 58

Iconic American boat builder Bertram Yachts announced that it will follow the new Bertram 35 with a larger convertible model, the Bertram 58. The new yacht is scheduled to launch in late 2017.

“We will start the tooling on the Bertram 58 in three months, right around the same time we launch the Bertram 35,” said Bertram Yachts Product Development Manager Tommy Thompson. “This demonstrates our deep commitment to covering the full Bertram Yachts range with updated models that evoke the Bertram legacy while at the same time incorporating the latest in design, construction and performance technology. This is not a casual venture for Bertram’s parent company, the Gavio Group, and its President, Beniamino Gavio. He is fully invested in the new Bertram Yachts.”

Based on the iconic1980s Bertram 54 − still anenthusiast favorite − the new 58 will feature updated naval architecture, styling and space-planning by yacht designer Michael Peters, along with state-of-the-art propulsion and technology.

“In order to meet demand from Bertram’s devoted customer base and today’s marine marketplace in general, we needed more running surface, more horsepower, better fuel efficiency, and more onboard space than in the Bertram 54. That’s why we went to 58 feet,” Thompson said. “Every captain out there has cut his teeth on a Bertram 54. We wantedto create the boat that the next generation cuts its teeth on.”

Designed and fully equipped to be a tournament-level sport fishing yacht, the new Bertram 58 also will provide luxury accommodations for long-distance adventures, along with the ultra-smooth “Bertram Ride” offshore. The yacht’s three-stateroom layout is optimized both for living space and for the storage required to head over the horizon. “The master stateroom and head will feel like a suite you’d find in a much larger convertible,” Thompson said. “We also are proud of the main deck configuration with its open salon and galley for unimpeded traffic flow. The forward windows will be clear, so the salon has near-360-degree views. When you walk in, you’ll be amazed.”

The Bertram 58’s cutting-edge space-planning extends to the machinery spaces on board. “The engine room is as important to us as the master stateroom,” Thompson said. Base power is provided by Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels, and the yacht is projected to have maximum speed of well over 40 knots. “After all, it’s a Michael Peters design,” he added. When discussed with Peters, he commented, “the truth is, we know the ante’s up based on the overwhelming response to the 35. We did it to ourselves, we set our own bar high and we have every intention of exceeding it.”

Thompson also hinted at the press conference that the new 58 would be built at a dedicated Bertram Yachts facility located somewhere the U.S. “We also will use all American equipment or equipment that is readily available in the U.S. on board,” he said. “We want people to be able to have their Bertram 58 serviced and find parts right in their own cruising grounds.”
