Satura Studio – Tuxedo

“ Living a yacht is a unique experience, our design intent is to enhance this experiemce” with this idea Satura Studio debuts with “ M/Y Tuxedo”.

M/Y Tuxedo was created with the intent to emphasize the feeling and connection between the user and the sea by developing never-before-used design solutions.

Tuxedo creates a sense of elegance on his exterior design, through the use of continuous lines and shapes that appear to emerge from the water. The dynamism of the yacht is created by the position of the main volumes that drive the yacht forward and accentuate the large, open bow. In contrast, material and formal, the stern volume is extruded to complete the imposing hull. Wide windows are camouflaged on the main surfaces in order to maintain the hull shape, whole creating a surprise by night fall as the light reveals the openings and emphasizes the interaction of the volumes.

The 48-meter motor yacht features more that 20 meter continuous lower deck, from the aft to the mid ship that houses balconies of expansive sightlines, open spaces, and a wellness area. This unique continuity is given thanks to a hybrid propulsion system stocked in the under-lower deck. They were able to develop a new functional space including an entirely floodable pool deck area with openings on either side. These open connections allow the user to have a direct experience with the sea, changing the traditional use of the entire deck.

The transformative pool makes a further connection with the sea by using natural salt water that transports the user to believing they’re in the sea, while being in the comfort of their yachts. The central staircase also acts as a combination of glass and steel bridge over the water leading towards the main deck, where eight guests are hosted. These VIP cabins further the visual connection to the sea with expansive windows.

On the upper deck, 120-square meters is dedicated to the master cabin and designed to ensure the maximum comfort and privacy of the owner from both inside and out.

The project is the 2017 MYDA award winner in the “beginners category” and was developed by the founders of Satura Studio Alberto Frulla, Francesco Viola and Federica Fino during the “Design navale e nautico” master degree of Universtità deglistudi di Genova, Polo Marconi La Spezia, in collaboration with two engineers, Giovanni Genovese and Roberto Argiroffi.
