Sailing on board firefly

The first stunning and timelessly lined F-Class yacht Firefly was launched in May 2011. As soon as she touched the water, this gorgeous F-Class one design left her birthplace in the Netherlands to make her debut at the Superyacht Cup in Palma de Mallorca, immediately taking the spotlight.

The two following years, she finished 2nd at both the St Barth’s Bucket, the Antigua Classic Week Race, and the Rolex Maxi Yacht Cup in Sardinia (in 2012 and 2013), while securing two podiumsat the LoroPiana Regatta. Reaching her peak with a seasoned crew, Firefly won the LoroPianaRegatta and the Rolex Maxi Yacht Cup in 2014, becoming the queen of Sardinia.

Designed by Hoek Design, Firefly was constructed to the highest quality standards available. Her hull was built by Bloemsma Aluminium bouw and completed by Claasen Shipyards, most recently responsible for the build of the J-Class Lionheart. The combination of classic lines, modern design, advanced technical systems, high performance spars and rig, with unconventional bold materials give Firefly her unique quality and finish.

A thoroughbred with a noble heritage, Firefly is nonetheless a modern yacht with hydraulic sailing systems, Harken winches, Lewmar deck gear, PBO rigging, a carbon mast, boom and rudder, all selected to minimise weight while maximising racing performance. Specifically designed for long distance racing, the water ballast system efficiently shifts 5 tons of water from one side to the other within two minutes, also optimising time and performance.

Stepping on such an elegant and powerful racer is an experience, but sailing on her gives emotions beyond words. Firefly is an exceptional yacht, a class of her own, that could only be owned by someone with passion and vision. Currently available for charter and for sale exclusively with Thompson West wood & White, passionate yacht brokers based in Monaco, her interiors could be customised to transform her into a true gentleman’s yacht, with plans already designed. But I think she would be the perfect flagship and training vessel for a prestigious yacht club, and I encourage all sailing enthusiasts from the Middle East to consider Firefly as a jewel to add to the crown of an existing club with strong sailing ambitions, such as the famous DIMC.
