M/Y Vespucci nominated for the World Superyacht Awards 2019

Monaco Marine is proud to announce that the iconic yacht Vespucci is one of the nominees for the World Superyacht Awards 2019, in Refit/Rebuilt category. The historical research, the carpentry and metal works has been undertaken by our great team who is honored to be rewarded.

Eight yachts have been nominated for the 14thannual edition of the World Superyacht Awards, section Rebuilt, Refit/Conversion Yachts, which recognizes the remarkable ingenuity and innovation demanded by the design, engineering and knowledge of the world’s finest luxury yachts. Monaco Marine is the only French shipyard to have been selected for the incredible works performed on M/Y Vespucci. This famous yacht, launched in 1978 by CRN in Italy, was ordered by the father of Riva Aquarama, the iconic and pioneering boat designer and builder Carlo Riva himself. M/Y Vespucci, her original and present name, is a 30,5 meters-yacht, with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Powered by her two original Caterpillar engines, her top speed is 12,5 knots and she has four guests cabins and five crew. She is the first yacht nominated refitted in Monaco Marine shipyards.

“We are so proud of this nomination! What a reward for us and for the owner who believed in our team and our skills!”, says with a large smile Camille Meyer-Warnod, the project manager. M/Y Vespucci was undertook by Monaco Marine Antibes shipyard from November 2016 to July 2017, but she comes back every year since for small works or, as this winter, for a completely hull painting work. “The awards experts were delighted to see how much we preserved this piece of yachting heritage, the excellent quality of the refit and the price of the refit. On every classic yachts, some unscheduled works need always to be undertaken, due to the corrosion and to how much time passes. It happened the same thing on M/Y Vespucci. But the owner understood perfectly and our team provided tailor-made solutions using the same construction techniques that were originally employed”, she adds. M/Y Vespucci was refitted respecting her original design (even the light switches were kept!), with huge amount of works of carpentry, electricity, painting and metal works. Everything was made like-for-like, even the plumbery.

M/Y Vespucci will be the ambassador of Monaco Marine in this World Superyacht Awards. She will show the challenges of refitting a classic yacht with success, maintaining her to the highest standards and preserving the original feature of a classic yacht. Monaco Marine has invested all its know-how and its experience to reach the perfect refit. Organized by Boat International Media, in association with Oyster Yachts, the glamorous ceremony will take place in London from 16 – 18 May 2019. The winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2019 will be known during this event.
