ISS’s Annual U.K. Regatta Features Big Windand Unwavering Support for Sail4Cancer

Six teams took part in the International Superyacht Society (ISS) Annual Regatta 2nd– 4th June, racing between Hamble and Cowes. The crews raced in a matched fleet of Fairview Sailing’s BeneteauOceanis 37 yachts.

The weekend offered fantastic networking opportunities and a chance to raise funds for worthwhile cause, Sail4Cancer. The competing teams included Superyacht Charites (SYC)/Idea works, Charles Douglas, Redman Whitley Dixon, Nobiskrug, BMT/Oceanco and Magnus Marine.

The participants were met with gusts up to 24 knots on Saturday and with spinnakers prohibited on the last two races due to dangerous conditions. BMT/Oceanco and SYC were in the lead by close of racing.

“Day two was much the same with strong winds keeping the sailing competitive,” says Ken Hickling, regatta founder, ISS board member and Superyacht Charities trustee. “The second race—the Trimline Rose Bowl—was helmed by ladies only. BMT/Oceanco’s boat were proud victors with Rosie Geyman at the wheel.”

Kerry Pettitt of SMART and Superyacht Charities trustee, comments on the overall results, “Well done to all that took part. BMT/Oceanco boat were extremely pleased to take the trophy home with SYC/Idea works coming in very close 2nd and Nobiskrug in 3rd place.”

Saturday’s BBQ and Sail4Cancer raffle was held at the Island Sailing Club in Cowes and offered America’s Cup viewing before a delicious meal. Over £500 was raised for Sail4Cancer on the raffle alone.

Sail4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water-based respite days and holidays for families affected by cancer. The charity also makes grants to cancer care centres and supports research into the positive effects of exercise and how it can help prevent cancer and aid recovery post diagnosis.
